My Experience with Water-to-Go 75cl Active Bottle

I first came across Water-to-Go at the National Outdoor Expo earlier this year. Their booth was bustling, but what caught my attention was Dave, the brand’s founder, demonstrating their product. He poured what can only be described as disgusting muddy water from a jug into one of their bottles and drank it straight away. If that’s not enough to show a brand’s faith in their product, I don’t know what is!

Anyway, I left the show intrigued, eager to test one of these bottles for myself, and a few weeks later, I was excited to arrive home and find a Water-to-Go 75cl Active Bottle waiting on my doorstep.

From the outside, there’s nothing particularly special about this bottle, but once you unscrew the lid you’ll soon discover where the real magic happens.

The filter attached to the lid is a sophisticated multi-stage system. It uses a combination of mechanical filtration, electrical (ionic) adsorption, and carbon absorption to remove up to 99.9999% of contaminants. This includes viruses, bacteria, chemicals, and heavy metals. The key component is a unique, replaceable filter made from a dense arrangement of fibres which acts as a sieve, catching contaminants larger than 2 microns.

At first, I used the bottle for my daily dog walk, filling it from the kitchen tap. Considering tap water in the UK is already safe to drink, I didn’t notice any difference in water quality, However, I did notice the water flow was slightly restricted, requiring a stronger pull on the mouthpiece which felt a little different at first but you soon get used to it.

The real test came when I took the bottle out on my paddleboard, cruising down the River Ouse in Sussex. I like taking as little as possible out with me whenever I paddle so normally find that I end up rationing my water, but with the Water-to-Go bottle that no longer has to be the case as I could refill directly from the river.

I’ll admit it felt a bit odd the first time you take a swig of dirty river water but I needn’t worry as the water was clear, tasted fresh, and felt cool and refreshing.

Since then, I’ve carried the bottle on daily walks, filling up from woodland streams and even stagnant puddles with complete faith in the filter’s capability. I’ve been consistently impressed with the performance of the filter—I’m pleased to say that there’s been no sickness or negative side effects from drinking from dodgy water sources.
